<abstract>In this paper we prove the existence of global $H^2$-solutions and energy decay of small amplitude of the Kirchhoff type wave equation with linear localized dissipation and two types of boundary conditions in an exterior domain. Subsequently, we also consider the same problem with weakly nonlinear dissipation.</abstract>
