Abstract :

A surface--knot is an embedded orientable closed surface in 4--space. A generic projection of a surface--knot into 3--space is called a surface diagram. Some surface diagrams can be deformed by crossing change operations along some nice double curves. In this talk we will show that a crossing change operation on a surface diagram can be expressed by attaching and removing 1--handles to the diagram.
