Professor Masako Kobayashi will give a lecture at the school
as follows:
Title: Normal surface theory and its application
Abstract:
In 1961, W.Haken introduced "normal surface".
"Normal surface" is a kind of embedded surfaces
in a 3-manifold and we have a correspondence between
normal surfaces and numerical vectors.
We will give a talk about some elementary definitions and facts on
normal surface, and recent topics of normal surface theory
applied to knot theory.
