Analysis Prize Bylaws

_

1.

The Analysis Prize was not designed to be only an encouragement prize for young researchers.
It was not designed to recognize achievements completed at a past point in time, but rather achievements which are related to on-going research.

2.

The range of the field of mathematical analysis is considered in the widest possible sense, for this prize. Works in applied mathematics also will be given equal consideration, if they contribute to the development of mathematical analysis.

3.

Selection committee:

(a)

The committee consists of eight persons in total, as follows:
Two persons from the Functional Equations Section, two persons from the Statistics and Probability Section, one person from each of the Function Theory Section and the Real Function Theory Section and the Functional Analysis Section, and one person recommended by the board of directors of the Mathematical Society of Japan. The chairman is elected by the committee.

(b)

Each committee member from a given research section must be recommended by the responsible councilor of the section. However, the person does not officially represent the section.

(c)

The term of office for members of the committee coming from a research section is one year, but they may be recommended again. The limit of the term of office is three years in total. The term of office for the member of the committee who is recommended by the board of directors is decided by that board.

(d)

Names of all members of the committee will be released at the same time as the announcement of the winners.

4.

Recommendation of candidates for the Analysis Prize:

(a)

The recommendation cannot be made by the candidate himself/herself.

(b)

Three members of the recommendation committee are selected from each of the research sections (Function Theory, Functional Equations, Real Function Theory, Functional Analysis, and Statistics and Probability), to make a total of fifteen members. (The selection will be done by each responsible councilor.) The term of office for members of this committee is one year, but they may be selected again. The limit of the term of office is three years in total.

(c)

The recommendations from members of the Mathematical Society of Japan will be received by members of the selection committee.

(d)

Members of the selection committee are not permitted to recommend candidates for this prize.

5.

Award ceremony:

(a)

The award ceremony will be held in the autumn meeting of the Mathematical Society of Japan.

(b)

In order to hold lectures by the winners of the Analysis Prize, as special lectures of related research sections in the next spring meeting, the chairman of the selection committee will request responsible councilors of those sections to carry this out, including the making of announcements.
